Dogs are considered a man’s best friend; but this friend might become the reason for the owner to be embarrassed in front of other people, because of improper behavioral training. Surely you wouldn’t like to find yourself in any such situation, where you become the center of attraction due to humiliating behavior of your dog. So, it is necessary to train your dog.

Each household pet dog should be given the training to follow certain basic set of commands. Further, the dog owner should make sure to train the dog on certain behavioral aspects as well.

Basic Command Training:

• Sit – This is the most basic yet important command for a pet dog. A pet dog, on hearing this command, should sit down and also remain conscientious for any succeeding command.
• No – Any pet dog should be trained to understand that when he gets to hear this command, he should immediately stop any action that he is doing at that moment and should become attentive.
• Heel – The intention of using this command is to instruct the dog to walk alongside the owner and not to pull ahead, while being on a loose leash.
• Stay – This domination is one of the toughest to teach a dog. The dog should not move until and unless the handler releases him.
• Here – This command is mostly used as a following command to stay. It instructs the dog to come to the position from which the handler is giving him the command.
• Off – Most pet dogs have the habit of jumping on people they like or to jump on furniture like sofa or bed. This command would inform the dog to get off the person or the item, furniture etc.
• Down – This command is used to teach the dog to lie down. While lying down, the dog should be in a relaxed state.

Manner and Conduct Training:

• Remaining Calm: A pet dog should be taught to remain calm, when a stranger approaches his owner or handler and stops to have a talk. None of us would want our dear pet to be the reason for our friends not visiting us. The dog should also remain peaceful when a stranger tries to pet him.
• Being Easy to Handle: A dog should also be trained such that it accepts the handling approach of a veterinarian or a groomer and doesn’t react aggressively in such conditions. A dog should behave in a serene manner in the presence of another dog and his handler.
• Potty Training: Puppy house/Potty training and crate training are amongst the most essential manner of conduct while training your dog. We obviously wouldn’t want our pet to be going around our yard or house and making it dirty.

One of the foremost advantages of dog training is that, it allows developing a relationship between the dog and his handler. A mutual respect develops in the dog’s mind while keeping the handler established as the dominant member or the alpha member. If the handler gets the image of being the Alpha member, the dog is sure to give respect, love and trust the handler more than anyone. Another advantage of having a dog trained would be the fact that now you could show off in your social circle and boast of having a well trained dog.
